Pin cherries ripe and plentiful

I got a call yesterday from my folks in Little Falls, MN. They told me the big pin cherry tree over on the Platt River public access is ripe for the picking. If we wait until the weekend, the tree could be bare (there are some folks living nearby that like to make pin cherry wine). It has become a race each year to see who gets to the tree first…
So Chuck and I drove up there today, picked up the folks, and we gathered pin cherries. While we were picking, one of the “wine-makers” drove up (obviously scouting the tree). We invited him to join us, but he said he would come back tomorrow.

We had a great time and went home with about a half-bushel of pin cherries (leaving plenty for the local wine affictionados). Mom and Me? we’ll be making jelly.
